CBD could help prevent Coronavirus
New research suggests that cannabis extracts could be used to prevent coronavirus.
The recent global pandemic has had scientists and researchers racing against time to find out what this virus is and how we could prevent it from attacking our internal organs, making us ill and taking many human lives.
Given the time that this global event occurred and the level we were at with respect to cannabis research it seems fortunate and highly relevant that cannabis was considered as a preventative or a treatment for covid.
The recent interest spike and sales in CBD prior to the virus seemed to be put in place for this global pandemic. If you are a CBD user you more than likely know the effects that cannabis products such as CBD can have on our health. You may also know how CBD works when it is used on our bodies.
The way in which cannabis works with this virus is now being researched and the University of Lethbridge, Canada, are studying over 400 strains of cannabis to find out. They have already determined that twelve of these strains may be effective to prevent the virus from infecting a host.
With research already showing us that cannabis has amazing anti-inflammatory properties, we already know that it is a strong contender to help battle this.
Researchers have found that these effective strains, in some instances, have reduced the amount of virus receptors, this reduces the chance of contracting.
"A number of them have reduced the number of these receptors by 73 per cent, the chance of it getting in is much lower," Dr Igor Kovalchuk told the Calgary Herald. "If they can reduce the number of receptors, there's much less chance of getting infected."
This new research is very interesting and as this develops it would be interesting to see which compound of cannabis is most effective. CBD?, THC? Either way access to Cannabis is needed now more than ever here in the UK and many countries across the world.
After all of these years, all of the evidence that we have seen in a vast amount of health conditions. Could the Coronavirus be the reason for cannabis being legalised in the UK?
